Chemically Toughened Glass

Chemically toughened glass assures the best optics, since it does not suffer from optical distortion which thermally toughened glass can do.

Chemical strengthening can create a high-performance glass with no notable distortion and a very shallow surface layer.

Chemically toughened glass is five to eight times stronger than toughened glass.  It retains its colour and light transmission properties after treatment.  Due to its manufacturing process, it  has no bow or warp, optical distortion or strain pattern.

It can also be laminated which means that if the glass breaks, it will break into large fragments like annealed glass.

Curved Glass

Large curved windscreens with complex shapes are playing an important role in aesthetics and aerodynamics within luxury yachts. They can create a high-performance glass with no notable distortion and a very shallow surface layer.

Curved marine windows can be chemically strengthened, laminated, are heatable, solar controlled, reflective, screen printed, thermal insulated and armoured.

A one-piece frameless panoramic view can only be obtained with larger windows. Now it is possible to see your way without any separation.

Insulated glazing units

IGUs are used, amongst other things, to insulate the yacht, aid noise reduction and prevent condensation.

IGUs can be produced in multiple formats (flat, curved and tinted glass). They can be used in various doors systems, opening windows and portlights.

What is insulated glass?

Insulated glass refers to two pieces of glass spaced apart and hermetically sealed to form a single-glazed unit with an inert gas filled space between. Heat transmission through this type of glass may be as low as half that without such an air space. It is also called double glazing or thermopane glass.

Laminated Glass

Today, with the advantages and functions it offers, laminated glass has become one of the most accepted and popular marine glazing options.

Laminated glass provides security, reduction of solar heat gain, UV radiation and sound, whilst presenting numerous colour options.

What is laminated glass?

Two or more sheets with an inner layer of transparent plastic are manufactured. If impacted, the glass itself may crack, but the fragments tend to adhere to the plastic interlayer. By keeping the glass in its place, the protective interlayer provides added protection from dangerous flying or falling glass fragments. Used for overhead, safety glazing, and sound reduction.

Silk Printed Glass

Silk printing can be used in numerous ways, some of which are:
  • Windscreen borders for design or to aid bonding
  • Shower doors
  • Splashbacks
  • Any glass can be printed
Printed borders actually aid the strength of the fitting or bonding of a windscreen. This occurs due to the border being cooked at the same time as the glass, so when the adhesive is applied, it offers a more secure fitting.

Borders are available in many different colours.

Privacy Glass

Privacy glass/switchable glass is available in an array of variations from flat to curved or shaped, insulated and tinted.

You can confidently move through your yacht knowing that your privacy is protected, whether you are relaxing or showering.

Turn your glass from translucent to opaque within 0.01 seconds with the flick of a switch, a sensor or remote.

When turned ‘off’ the glass can be opaque which allows complete privacy with the advantage of allowing natural light to permeate through.

When turned ‘on’ the glass is translucent thus allowing the feeling of brightness and space.

Although you would not want to ever be in this situation, it is important to mention that the glass has been tested fully submerged underwater.

Thermally Toughened Glass

Designs are available in flat, single and bi-curvature glass

Thermally toughened glass can also be laminated or used on IGUs.

What is thermal stress?

Thermal stress occurs when an area within a glass pane gets hotter than an adjacent area. If there is too much stress then the glass will crack. Toughening the glass will stop this happening.  It is a traditional method for safety rated glass.

What is tempered glass?

Tempered glass is a type of safety glass that is 4-5 times stronger than regular glass. It is made through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling which makes it a much harder and a more brittle type of glass.

When tempered glass breaks, it shatters into little pebbles without any dangerous sharp edges.
